Group Fitness Classes
SouthFit's group fitness classes include cardiorespiratory endurance, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, and neuromotor skills. Our certified instructors will lead you in fun and effective workouts!
All group fitness classes include modifications for various fitness levels; however, please read our class descriptions that detail the level of choreography and impact you should expect.
Classes are free for all currently enrolled ÓûÂþɬ students and Student Recreation Center members. No need to sign up; just come to any class, any time.
Athletic shoes must be worn in all classes except yoga, Pilates, stretch and water aerobics.
A member age 18+ may bring two guests to the Student Recreation Center for $10 per day. The guest fee allows access to the whole facility, not just fitness classes.
Dependents age 10-15 may attend classes during dependent hours, including the extended dependent hours in the summer. A parent/guardian must attend and participate in the class with dependents age 10-15.
Please check our online schedule (Google calendar) each day for class changes and/or cancellations.
Water aerobics classes will be canceled anytime inclement weather causes the pools to close.
Build strength and endurance in your arms, legs, and core. This class will use body weight, dumbbells, resistance bands, and more. Low-impact. Athletic shoes required.
Push yourself with a mixture of cardio and strength training. Expect some running and other high impact exercises, but modifications will be shown. No choreography. Athletic shoes required. You can do this!
A quick but powerful 15-minute core workout targeting your abs, obliques, and deep stabilizers. Perfect for building strength, balance, and control in minimal time!
This has great music, climbs, sprints, and more! Express Lane is 30 minutes. If you have never taken a class, please arrive 10 minutes early to learn bike set-up. Non-impact and no choreography. Athletic or cycling shoes required.
Meet at our functional training area downstairs by the indoor soccer court. Work with battle ropes, , boxing bags, sand bags, slam balls, and more to improve stability and core function. Low- or high-impact (your choice). No choreography. Athletic shoes required.
High Intensity Interval Training: Alternate between high-intensity cardio exercises and low-intensity recovery periods. Expect some high impact exercises, but modifications will be shown. No choreography. Athletic shoes required.
This class is all about high energy, easy-to-follow choreography, and great music! We’ll break down each dance step-by-step, so beginners feel confident while experienced dancers still get a great workout. Low impact. Athletic shoes required.
Based on Joseph Pilates’ methods, this mat class challenges the core muscles’ strength and stability with controlled exercises.
Channel your inner rockstar with this inspired by the fun of playing the drums. Athletic shoes required.
Our staff is available for a private fitness class for your ÓûÂþɬ department, student organization, college, or academic class! Fee is $50/hour and includes all equipment. Your group may choose from most of our class types. Email sarahschrenk@southalabama.edu to schedule a class; please look at the current SouthFit schedule to determine if a studio is open at your requested time.
Payment is due 48 hours in advance of class. You may cancel for a full refund up to 48 hours in advance of the class. There are no refunds for cancellations less than 48 hours in advance or no-shows.

Join us in the heated pool for a full-body workout! One-piece swimsuit recommended. Shallow water aerobics is low-impact. Deep water aerobics is non-impact. No choreography.
