Non-Tenure-track Assistant Professor OR Non-Tenure Professor of Practice Position in Mechanical Engineering
The William B. Burnsed Jr. Department of Mechanical, Aerospace, and Biomedical Engineering at the University of South Alabama (欲漫涩) in Mobile, Alabama, invites applications for one faculty position, to be filled at either of the following ranks, depending on the candidate's qualifications. Applicants should indicate in their cover letter which track they are applying under. The expected starting date is January 4, 2027.
Non-Tenure Assistant Professor:
Required degree: Earned doctorate in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field
Experience: Candidates with scholarship or research interests are encouraged to apply
Primary Duties: Teaching primarily, with opportunity to pursue scholarship and research
Non-Tenure Professor of Practice:
Required degree: Graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field
Experience: Extensive industry experience in mechanical engineering or a closely related field
Primary Duties: Teaching exclusively
The successful candidate must demonstrate excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate level, and will be expected to teach courses in core mechanical engineering areas, including mechanics, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and design.

The William B. Burnsed Jr. Department of Mechanical, Aerospace, and Biomedical Engineering is housed in Shelby Hall, a modern, 155,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility. The department offers an ABET-accredited B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, including a Biomedical Engineering track, and an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering. A B.S. in Aerospace Engineering was launched in Fall 2024, and preparations are already underway for the program鈥檚 first ABET review in 2029. The College of Engineering also offers a Ph.D. in Systems Engineering with a Mechanical Engineering track, as well as a Biomedical Engineering track within the Ph.D. program in Basic Medical Sciences, offered in collaboration with the 欲漫涩 College of Medicine. Opportunities exist for collaborative research with faculty in the College of Medicine and with the region's growing aerospace industry.
